Blue Lining

Blue lining is an old oil field term not used very often these days except by some of the ol’ timers still in the business.  Most of the younger people in this field have never even heard the term.  We  use the term every day because it’s indicative of our commitment to fast, safe and economical drilling.

What is "blue lining"?

What this means is that the Geolograph chart looks like a solid blue line between connections of drill pipe.  The Geolograph is a device that records the penetration rate of a bit during the drilling of a well.

Notice the separation between the blue tic marks
drawn by the Geolograph? This is NOT "blue lining".

Notice the lack of separation between the tic marks.
This is what is called “blue lining.”
